Black-capped Vireo, Endangered

$165.00

The Black-capped vireo is one of the Edwards Plateau’s prized species. Once endangered, its status has now moved to vulnerable with the help of federal and state agencies. This small singing bird needs low, scattered scrub bush to reproduce after its migration from Mexico.

Built around an armature and mounted on hand collected Pacific Ocean driftwood, this little vireo will warm your heart with its lovely green and black feathering. The vireo is needle felted - a process where strong and solid shapes are made by plunging a barbed needle repeatedly into wool, permanently entangling it. Different from wet felting, this dry process allows for a great amount of detail. Ready to hang.

Life size, total sculpture is 12”H x 12”W x 6”D
